Switzerdütscher Christmas Market - 3 days

  • Cross-border Christmas market
  • 2 countries - one city: Laufenburg

An atmospheric ambience is created from Friday to Sunday when the two historic old towns of Laufenburg/Germany and Laufenburg/Switzerland unite to form a common Christmas village. A stroll through the cross-border Christmas market is a very special experience during the Advent season. From the town hall forecourt in Laufenburg in Baden, you descend through the lovingly decorated Christmas town, across the Laufen bridge and the Rhine to Laufenplatz, into the town of the Swiss sister town. There are many gift ideas and just as many culinary delights to be found on both sides of the border. You will end the guided tour with a cup of homemade mulled wine at the Salmigfängern in their Salmigrotte (located in the middle of the old town).

Day 1:   Arrival Switzerland - City Tour Basel

Welcome to Basel. The city has a special location in the border triangle and is the centre of northern Switzerland. Basel has the advantages of a small town, such as manageability and intimacy coupled with the advantages of a large city, such as spaciousness, supply density and diversity. Discovering the city is a feast for the senses, because the cosmopolitan inhabitants of the city understand a lot about the savoir-vivre: good food and drink are just as important as art and culture. Lovingly decorated houses, festively decorated shop windows as well as atmospheric lighting in the old town alleys and majestic fir trees create a festive atmosphere. A stroll through the city puts you in an enchanting mood. Overnight stay in the Basel area.

Day 2:   Cross-border Christmas Market Laufenburg

An atmospheric ambience is created from Friday to Sunday when the two historic old towns of Laufenburg/Germany and Laufenburg/Switzerland, approx. 45 km east of Basel, unite to form a common Christmas village. Of course, guests are allowed to take the cup home with them.
