Striezel? Stollen? Dresden!

There is probably hardly anyone in and around Germany who is not familiar with the famous Dresden Striezelmarkt. The Christmas market takes its name from perhaps the most traditional Christmas baked good, the delicious Striezel (better known outside Dresden as Stollen). A visit to the market, which was founded in 1434 and is thus considered the oldest documented Christmas market in Germany, is simply part of an Advent short trip to the baroque city. But in addition to the Striezelmarkt, an entire Christmas mile provides incomparable anticipation:  thematically different markets stretch from the Old Town to the other side of the Elbe. Be sure to visit the medieval Christmas market in the Stallhof, which belongs to the Residenzschloss and is not far from the Altmarkt and the Frauenkirche. A real insider tip: In front of an impressive backdrop, craftsmen offer their wares in a historical manner. Another highlight is the Christmas market at Augustusmarkt. Here, white and gold illuminated pagodas are set up and offer international products such as Danish Glögg or chocolates from Belgium.

Day 1 - Arrival Dresden

City tour of Dresden with visit and tasting in a Stollen bakery.

Arriving in Dresden, a combination of city tour and sightseeing already awaits you. The impressive sights such as the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger, the Church of Our Lady and the Old Market Square of the much praised baroque city are on your route. This is followed by a guided tour of a Dresden Stollen bakery.

In the evening we recommend an individual visit to the famous Dresden Striezelmarkt. Also visit the "Stallhöfische Adventsspektakel", which is held within the walls of the Dresden Residenzschloss. It is considered an insider tip, as in front of this impressive backdrop craftsmen offer their wares in a historical manner.

Another highlight is the Christmas market at Augustusmarkt. Here, white and gold illuminated pagodas are set up and offer international products.

When dusk falls, you should still go on a magical journey through the Christmas Garden in Dresden. Amidst the wonderful backdrop of Pillnitz Palace & Park, more than 1.5 million points of light shine and glitter. Let yourself be whisked away to a dreamlike Christmas world on a circular walk through this winter fairy tale and visit the Christmas Garden in Dresden (optional)!

Day 2 - Meissen and Moritzburg Castle (optional)

Possibility of an excursion to Meissen and fairy-tale castle Moritzburg (optional).

How about an excursion to Meissen today? Here the famous porcelain manufactory awaits you with an extensive exhibition (optional). Afterwards, a stroll through the picturesque old town, past winding alleys, lovingly restored town houses, cozy wine taverns, across the market square with its magnificent town hall, up to the castle hill with the Albrechtsburg and the cathedral is worthwhile. The Christmas market in Meißen, the Meißner Weihnacht, also invites you to linger. On your way back to Dresden, be sure to make a stop at Moritzburg Castle. The enchanting castle served as the backdrop for the 1973 fairy tale adaptation "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella," a film that flickers across millions of TV sets every year at Christmas time and still delights so many people during the holiday season. Visit the winter exhibition in the castle and follow in the footsteps of Cinderella (optional).
