Itinerary:

Eastern Switzerland King's Tour

From Appenzellerland to Engadin

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival in Sarganserland. Room check-in and dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: To the highest mountain of Eastern Switzerland - Säntis

After breakfast you will set off for the beautiful Appenzellerland. Discover the unique patrician houses amidst the hilly picture book landscape. From Schwägalp you can enjoy a gondola ride up to Säntis (optional). At 2501 m above sea level, the Säntis is the highest mountain in Alpstein. Due to the exposed, north-facing position of Alpstein, the mountain is a landmark visible from far away. From the Säntis summit you can see into six countries: Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy and France. Afterwards you will get to know the idyllic town of Appenzell during a walk. Return journey and dinner at the hotel.

Day 3: Lake Walen and Heidiland

After a hearty breakfast, you will have time to stroll through the lovely old town of Sargans before taking the bus to Lake Walen. Lake Walen in the vacation region of Heidiland is bordered on its northern side by the steeply rising Churfirsten. The scenery with the deep blue lake and the steep rock faces is reminiscent of a Norwegian fjord. You take the boat from Walenstadt to the wine village of Quinten, which can only be reached on foot or by boat. Here the mild climate allows kiwis and figs to flourish. After the lunch break (lunch on your own) you continue by boat to Weesen. Here the coach awaits you for the onward journey to Maienfeld to the Heidi village. Discover the world-famous story "Heidi" by Johanna Spyri in the authentic Heidi village, surrounded by an impressive mountain world. The peaceful hamlet houses the original Heidi house, the living quarters with furnishings as in Heidi's day, Heidi's alpine hut, the replica of Alpöhi's loving home, the exhibition Johanna Spyri's Heidi World as well as Heidi's village school from 1880. Discover Heidi's home on a varied and entertaining guided tour. End the day by strolling through the alleys of the historic town of Maienfeld. Maienfeld is one of the most famous and beautiful communities in Graubünden.

Day 4: With the Glacier Express through the Rhine Gorge and the Albula Valley to St. Moritz.

In the morning, your coach will take you to the starting point in Flims Waldhaus. From here, a short walk takes you down to Lake Cauma - the Caribbean of Switzerland. The Caumasee enchants with its turquoise water and inspires countless tourists every year. The journey continues to Disentis. Please take a seat and enjoy!  On today's panoramic journey on the Glacier Express through the Graubünden Alps, one highlight follows the next. Our section of the journey first takes you across the Rhine Gorge with its bizarre rock formations to Chur. From here, the journey continues in the panorama car along the Albula line to St. Moritz. This is undoubtedly one of the most impressive railroad lines in Switzerland. From Thusis, the 62-kilometer route leads via Tiefencastel, Filisur, Bergün, Preda, Spinas and Samedan to St. Moritz. Along the way, the trains cross over 140 bridges and travel through 42 tunnels. Particularly impressive, for example, is the 60-meter Landwasser Viaduct, which runs in a round arch with a radius of 100 meters and merges directly into a tunnel at the end. No sooner has one valley been traveled than the next adventure awaits behind the mountains. The coach will take you to your hotel in the Engadine area.

Day 5: Diavolezza and carriage ride

Today you will go to the glacier region of Diavolezza. You will travel by bus to the valley station in Pontresina. Take the cable car up to the Diavolezza - the "Festival Hall of the Alps" to marvel at the magnificent mountain scenery. The eventful history of the Diavolezza will fascinate you! On Diavolezza you are even closer to the mountain world than anywhere else: the four-thousand-meter Piz Bernina and the striking Piz Palü rise right in front of you, and at your feet flow the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers. In the afternoon you descend again and continue to Pontresina. Now a particularly beautiful experience is on the program - a romantic carriage ride. Make yourself comfortable on a carriage and enjoy the Engadine mountain air free from stress and time pressure. Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 6: Swiss National Park and St. Moritz

Today you will dedicate yourself to the unique Engadine landscape with its green-golden lark forests. The Engadine is a vast high valley in the middle of the Alps. Explore the most picturesque corners and fascinating cultural and natural treasures of this unique region. By coach you will drive up to the Maloja Pass and enjoy the Upper Engadine lake landscape. Once on the pass, you will enjoy the wonderful panorama of Bergell and Piz Lunghin. Afterwards you continue your journey to Zuoz. With the National Park Express Bummelzügli you move easily and relaxed through the Swiss National Park. First, the lnn accompanies you through the wide valley with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. As the mountains and the forests approach, you reach the narrow, impressive Val Varusch, until the valley with its high alpine character opens up again towards the National Park. Along the route you can admire a flora that varies according to the season. Enjoy the special ride through two of the most original villages of the Upper Engadine. In Varusch you will have the opportunity to taste the regional delicacies of the Engadine at lunch. On the way back you will have enough time to explore the noble resort of St. Moritz. Sights such as the leaning tower, a remnant of the Mauritius Church dating back to the 1500s or the Segantini Museum offer you some variety. Or you can enjoy the local specialties like the famous Engadin nut cake.

Day 7: Journey home

After breakfast you will head back home. If you have enough time, we recommend another highlight of Switzerland on your way back - the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. Here, massive masses of water cascade down the rocks over a width of 150 m!  After this natural spectacle, you will now say goodbye to the alpine world of eastern Switzerland with a Uf Wiederluege!
