A Great pilgrimage in the footsteps of great saints like Francis, Clare of Assisi and Anthony of Padua


Day 1: Arrival

We fly to the Italy capital Rome: Transfer by bus to Assisi where we arrive in the evening (2 nights).

 

Day 2: City of hl. Francis - Assisi

We visit the Basilica of S. Francesco with the tomb of the saint in the crypt (if accessible), the cathedral and the church of S. Chiara. In the afternoon we admire the tiny Portiuncula Chapel in the Basilica S. Maria degli Angeli.

 

Day 3: Rietital and Orvieto

Today we drive south, first to Rivotorto, where Francis founded his first community, and to Greccio with the oldest nativity scene. In the afternoon we reach Orvieto with its interesting cathedral and then continue to Rome (3 nights).

 

Day 4: St. Peter and catacombs

In the morning we visit St. Peter and have the opportunity to climb the dome. In the afternoon we drive to the Basilica of St. Paul in front of the walls and to one of the catacombs where we celebrate worship. Finally we visit the place of the martyrdom of the apostle Paul with the abbey Tre Fontane.

 

Day 5:  St. Peter

We celebrate the Sunday service in the city center and walk to St. Peter's Square, where at 12 o'clock the Angelus prayer with the Holy Father takes place (if the Pope is present). Then we visit S. Maria Maggiore, the largest St. Mary's Church in Rome, the Lateran Basilica with Baptistery and Holy Steps and S. Croce in Gerusalemme.

 

Day 6:  Montecassino

In the morning we go to Montecassino, the place of work of St. Benedict with his imposing monastery. Afterwards our way leads us over the Apennines past Foggia to San Giovanni Rotondo (2 nights).

 

Day 7: San Giovanni Rotondo

The morning is dedicated to St. Father Pio, whose tomb we also visit. The Sanctuary of St. Michael on the Monte Sant'Angelo will take effect in the afternoon.

 

Day 8: Manoppello and Loreto

In Lanciano, where the oldest Eucharistic pilgrimage takes us, we start our day's stage. Then it goes along the Adriatic Sea to Manoppello. There is the veil, which serves as a handkerchief of St. Veronika is worshiped. In the evening we arrive in Loreto, one of the most famous pilgrimage places in Italy (1 night).

 

Day 9:  Padua: City of St. Antonius

After a service in the Basilica of Loreto with a subsequent visit, we drive to Padua, one of the oldest cities in Italy and the site of another great saint. On a tour of the old town, we learn interesting facts about the city of St. Antonius and the imposing, dedicated to him basilica (1 night).

 

Day 10: Departure

We celebrate our final Mass in the Basilica of St. Anthony before we drive back to Rome. Flight back.
